This company simply cannot be trusted. Their software is becoming ever more dangerous; their internal security practices leave a lot to be desired; they aren’t being straight with the public; and their proxies are preparing us to swallow the damage that they are now anticipating.
Gary Marcus has been one of the more sober critics of the current #AI movement. Partly because he himself was an AI researcher, which allowed him to see the inflated claims and the grift for what they were, while still seeing the potential usefulness of #LLMs as one piece of a fully-functional AI system.
Marcus calling out OpenAI in this way should be a clarion call not just to those in government, who have been derelict in their duty to regulate these companies.
It should be a signal to those of us working in tech, that we cannot in good conscience aid and abet companies like #OpenAI as they charge forward building systems that aren’t getting us closer to AGI, but they are getting us closer to fully automated cyber-attacks.
Shut it down.
